How to Install Mods on Your 7 Days to Die Server

Updated March 27, 2026

From adding new blocks to changing the core mechanics, mods are a great way to enhance your 7 Days to Die experience. The game supports mods natively, making installation straightforward on both your client and your server. This guide covers both.

Downloading Your Mods

You can download mods from a website like 7daystodiemods.com.

  1. Locate and download the mod you want to install. Make sure the mod is compatible with your game version.
  1. Once downloaded, unzip the file to retrieve the mod folder containing the ModInfo.XML file.

Installing Mods Locally

Before connecting to your modded server, you need to install the same mods on your local game client.

  1. Close 7 Days to Die if it is running.

  2. Locate your 7 Days to Die game files. You can do this by right-clicking the game in your Steam Library and selecting Manage > Browse local files.

  3. Create a folder called Mods if it does not already exist, then open it.

  4. Copy your extracted mod folder into the Mods directory. Your ModInfo.XML file should be located at 7 Days To Die/Mods/[ModName]/ModInfo.XML.

That's it — 7 Days to Die will automatically load any mods placed in this folder.

Installing Mods on Your Server

To install mods on your server, follow these steps:

  1. Stop your server.

  2. Open the file manager in your server control panel.

  3. Create a folder called Mods if it does not already exist, then open it.

  4. Upload your extracted mod folder into the Mods directory. Your ModInfo.XML file should be located at Mods/[ModName]/ModInfo.XML.

Start your server and confirm that all mods loaded successfully.
